A few months ago, I led an arm balance workshop. One of the women who joined had recently returned from India, where she’d studied for 30 days at an intensive 200hr yoga teacher training program. I asked how her training had gone, and she said, “By the end, I’d only taught a portion of a class, and it went so poorly, my teacher told me that I shouldn’t be a teacher. I’m now looking into your 200hr training because I have no idea how to teach.”
I was blown away. In my opinion, all of us have something to offer the world. Yes, there are a lot of yoga teachers out there, but our philosophy is that not one of those teachers is you. Not one of them has your life experience, your energy, your drive, your magic. We firmly believe there is a space for all the yoga teachers out there.
If I were to share all the emails and direct messages I receive with similar stories - people who have spent thousands on a training, only to come out the other side and have no idea how to teach - the list would go on for ages.
Namaslay® Yoga Teacher Training program is designed differently. It’s about a three week intensive, and you teach from day one. The first week is a high speed intensive crash course in yogic philosophy, anatomy and sequencing, and the other two weeks are dedicated to honing the anatomy skills, the sequencing skills, injecting the yogic philosophy into your teachings, finding your own authentic voice, and practicing your assists, adjusts, and honing your professionalism. By the end of our training, most students have taught about eight full classes, and a two hour workshop. They also have extensive modules in Business and Marketing so that they know how to handle studio interviews, how to write a yoga resume, lead workshops, retreats, and how to market themselves in a saturated industry.
But what do you do if you’ve already spent thousands on a 200hr teacher training? You could, theoretically, go take another intensive training like ours. But recently, someone messaged me asking if I’d consider offering a crash course for those who have graduated their 200hr and just need a refresher to hone their skills. After careful consideration with some from my team, we’ve decided to offer just that - Namaslay® Yoga Teacher Training Refresher for 200hr YTT Graduates.
Refresher Yoga Teacher Training for 200hr YTT Graduates - The Details
What will be included?
Namaslay® Anatomy Refresher and Sequencing Crash Course: In the survey we conducted, many people said they didn’t feel confident in their sequencing. The root cause of this, we believe, is a lack of solid understanding of human anatomy. In this course, we’ll go over anatomy basics including the different types of joints in the body and how they’re designed to move, the muscles in the body and how they interact with other muscles in the body, different types and qualities of stretching, the bones and all the surrounding musculature and things we should be mindful of when teaching different types of bodies. From there, we can begin to intelligently sequence vinyasa flows. The sequencing section will focus on a general vinyasa style class and how to intelligently plan your yoga class flows. We’ll talk about ways to creatively make a flow your own using body intelligence, yoga pose evaluation, and unique movements.
Finding Your Authentic Voice: Themes, Cues, and Teaching Presence: In this module, we’ll start with some exercises to connect to our why. Why did you go into teaching yoga? Why should someone take your class when there are so many others out there? We’ll look to bring out the authentic teacher within you, and then focus on maintaining that as we refine our cuing skills. So much of effective cuing, feel-good assists/adjusts, and excellent teaching is knowing what to look for and teaching the individual students in front of you in the most authentic way possible. We’ll explore common misalignments we often see in yoga poses, and how to verbally cue for the people directly in front of you. For this section, we will have lecture followed by lots of practice teaching and open dialogue for constructive feedback so you can continue to grow.
The Art of Hands-on and Verbal Assists and Adjustments: In this section, we will revisit the basics of great assists and adjustments, and go over ways you can assist for downward facing dog, triangle pose, half-moon, twists, warriors, and more. Expect to leave with baseline foundations for how to give excellent hands-on assists and verbal adjustments to help people in their practice. Through lecture, demonstration, one-to-one, and then in-class practice, we’ll develop confidence in giving assists and adjustments in the yoga practice.
These categories are what set apart a good yoga teacher from a great one. Sign up to master the skills that will keep your students coming back for more.
