I've been following the GAPS diet for going on five months now. It was a huge decisionbecause it requires a lot of animal products and I had been vegetarian/vegan on and off for years, but I am happy to report that I couldn't be happier. At first glance, it's a pretty restrictive diet- no gluten, no processed foods, no sugar or sweeteners (apart from raw honey), but when I started looking at the diet in terms of what I could eat, rather than what I couldn't eat, I began to get a little creative and make things likemini pumpkin pies and riced cauliflower stir fry.

The other day I found avocados on sale and figured since I am basically addicted to them (is there anything they don't go with? I mean they're even good with chocolate), I would pick up a bunch and try adding them in for a GAPS deviled eggs recipe. I wasn't sure it would work - I was nervous I was going to get guacamole filled eggs, but it came out so good - so much so that if they didn't have a bit of a green tint to them, no one would ever know avocado was the secret ingredient.

Due to some back problems and the ol' ab injury creeping back in, I backed off my personal practice for a few weeks in December- sometimes you just need a break, you know? After a couple weeks of "rest" (I was still teaching five times a week, so it's not like I wasn't practicing at all) I felt ready to get back at it, and I made a promise to myself to step on the mat more for myself.
