People generally either really enjoy music in yoga class, or cannot freaking stand it - and I actually understand both sides. In some respects, I sometimes find music a real distraction, especially if I know the lyrics. I'll find myself humming along or shaking my asana on the mat (see what I did there?) and get totally away from the breath. Yet on the other hand, sometimes a class in total silence can make me super anxious (weird, I know). So basically it's a lose/lose situation (kidding!).

I thought I'd share this recent playlist I made because I get lost in it every time it's on. Calling by Trifonic is my favorite, closely followed by Fly. It's a perfect playlist for a yoga practice or just some soothing background music for a bath or something. It's instrumental, which is my favorite type of music for teaching yoga because then I don't get distracted by the lyrics and I can just focus on the students and the sequence.

Hellllooooo March! Can't believe March is here (where did Feb go?!), but it's off to a great start. This past weekend I taught a workshop (so fun - we had a great group!) and my two regular Sunday classes (Sunday is my favorite day of the week). I even got to sneak in a personal practice (see below from instagram), try out this recipe I had in my head (meh, wasn't crazy about it), and finally got around to seeing Gravity (so good, recommended!). Do you ever hear a song and it instantly transports you back to another time in your life? Om Invocation, the first song on this playlist, does that for me. I listened to it every morning at 5:00am before heading out to meditation class at my yoga teacher training. I was a ball of nerves (huge understatement) and that song just mellowed me out. Here are twelve other songs that I love for yoga practice. Click each song to have a listen.

There is a time and place for instrumental music and it's definitely in yoga class. Don't worry, elevator music it is not. Rather, this playlist starts out softly, slowly, and gets faster and more intense, before mellowing out again - much like I prefer my yoga sequences. This is the current playlist I've been using in heavy rotation for my classes.
